Beacon Way Therapy

For support coordinators and referrers

Plans that come with a practitioner

Specialist behaviour support for the people you refer, and everyone who supports them.

You’ve probably seen a plan that exists and a practitioner who doesn’t. Our family has too, and it’s why Beacon Way exists.

Who we work with

A plan only works if everyone around the person uses it the same way. We work with support coordinators, local area coordinators, guardians (including the Public Advocate), plan managers and state units such as SA’s Exceptional Needs Unit. We also work with the mainstream and NDIS supports around the person: schools, day programs, SIL houses (supported independent living), support providers, allied health and doctors.

We know this work from both sides. Our family has worked with coordinators, planners and plan managers for around ten years. We’ve also run businesses in plan management and allied health therapy. Rachelle Browne, our Clinical Manager, has spent most of her career inside the teams you refer to.

How we work with you

A drawing. A man in a pink T-shirt taps his card to pay at a café counter, his support worker beside him. The practitioner sits at a nearby table with a notebook, watching.

Talk it through first

Call and tell us what’s going on. Rachelle works out whether we’re the right fit to help. The person or their family can refer too, so support coordination doesn’t need to be in the plan.

When we’re not the right fit

If we don’t have capacity, or we’re not the right fit for what the person needs, we’ll say so and help you find someone who can.

One plan, built together

We collaborate with all the services involved to write a behaviour support plan that incorporates each aspect of a person’s support. We then train the people putting the strategies into practice and will provide support throughout the implementation.

You hear from us

We stay in contact and are responsive if you need us. We will include you in the process and make decisions with the person and those around them.

Nobody works alone

Rachelle supervises every practitioner here. She works at Advanced level under the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework.

What referrers usually ask

  • Who we see

Children, teenagers and adults with behaviour support funding in their NDIS plan.

  • Where

    We work across Adelaide.

  • Restrictive practices

Some people come to us with restrictive practices already included in their behaviour support plan. Sometimes we identify restrictive practices through conversations in our initial meeting or throughout our service. Either way, we help those using restrictive practices understand how to make sure that everyone remains safe and has the appropriate supports to minimise any negative impacts. We will also support NDIS providers to understand their authorisation and reporting obligations and help them through this process if needed. We will always develop a plan to fade a restrictive practice, but this plan will only start when it is safe to do so.

  • Timeframes

If a restrictive practice is in use with no plan, tell us on the referral. In that case, once we’re engaged, the NDIS rules give us one month from the engagement date on the service agreement for an interim plan, and six months for the comprehensive plan.

  • Registration
